TEAK (TECTONA GRANDIS)

Teak (Tectona), is a genus of tropical hardwood trees in the mint family, Lamiaceae. Teak is a type of high-quality timber producing trees. Large tree, straight-trunked, it can grow as tall as 30-40 m. Large-leaved, the whole in the dry season. Teak is known the world with a teak (English). This name comes from the word thekku (തേക്ക്) in Malayalam, the language in the state of Kerala in southern India. Teak is the scientific name for Tectona grandis L.f. Teak (Tectona grandis sp.)
